Police target red light jumping car insurance policyholders

Motor insurance policyholders have been driving through red traffic signals at a roadworks site in a London borough, according to a local newspaper.
Police caught ten drivers in a crackdown operation at the London Bridge Road in Hackbridge, Sutton, which is currently under redevelopment, the Sutton Guardian has reported.
Officers issued the “irresponsible motorists” with £60 fines when they ignored the temporary one-way system, controlled by traffic lights, on the bridge.
Councillor Simon Wales, Sutton Council’s executive member for community safety, told the newspaper that there is “no excuse” for the “ridiculous” acts of some drivers who are “putting lives at risk to save a minute or two”.
He said: “They’re overtaking on the brow of a hill and could hit an oncoming vehicle or swerve into the workers carrying out the bridge replacement. Our message is ? if you jump the lights, you will be caught.”
Separate research, conducted last month by car retailer Autoquake.com, found that less than half of drivers could correctly recall the order in which red, green and amber traffic lights illuminate.
