You do not have to buy on site caravan insurance

The site owners of your chosen caravan locations may try to give you the impression that you are obliged to buy their on site caravan insurance if you want to locate your caravan on their site.
In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. You are under absolutely no obligation to buy on site caravan insurance.
The site owner may have every right to ensure that you have appropriate insurance cover prior to allowing you access to their site and if so, this would be perfectly understandable – particularly from a third party liability viewpoint.
Accidents can and do happen and having the financial security of caravan insurance behind you may be indispensable.
Being able to choose your own policy though may be just as important.
Your caravan probably represents a substantial investment for you. Being pressured into buying a particular policy, rather than choosing the most appropriate cover for your own specific requirements and usage patterns, may result in less than optimum cover for your asset.
That could cost you dear in the long run.
It may only be by comparing the cover available from a number of different providers, that you can be sure you have an appropriate solution. What is best for another caravan and caravanner may not be best for you.
When you are able to shop around, you may be able to find caravan insurance that may offer discounts which help you realise savings on your caravan insurance premiums.
These may be available for things such as:
- belonging to a recognised caravan club or association;
- using a site when has a flood free history;
- installing approved security devices;
- locating your caravan on a site which has round the clock supervision.
You may find that, even if you are charged an administration fee by the site owners for the work involved in their having to record your own insurance details, buying your own caravan insurance may still be more cost effective than taking on site caravan insurance cover.
